Youth and Opportunity United (Y.O.U.) is set to expand programming to a new partner school in 2023: Dr. Bessie Rhodes School of Global Studies. Y.O.U. was awarded a 3-year 21st Century Learning Center grant from the Illinois State Board of Education to provide afterschool and summer programming to 2nd – 8th graders at Bessie Rhodes School in Evanston/Skokie School District 65.
Y.O.U.’s Out-of-School Time (OST) Program provides an essential mix of academic support, social-emotional learning, and enrichments five days a week after school complemented by a full-day summer program. The OST Program includes integrated mental health services and family engagement. This expansion will bring Y.O.U.’s current reach to 8 Title I partner schools in District 65 and 10 partner schools in total.
Demand for the OST Program is high, with enrollment up 45% compared to this time last year.
“We’re proud to continue expanding Y.O.U.’s impact as we work to serve all youth in Evanston who could benefit from our programs and services,” said Y.O.U. CEO Craig Lynch.
April Langworthy, Y.O.U.’s Executive Director of Out-of-School Time Programs, added, “Many youth are still coping with the negative impacts of the pandemic. I’m excited that Y.O.U. has the opportunity to provide crucial academic, social, and emotional support and resources to even more youth.”
Y.O.U. is an Evanston-based non-profit organization founded in 1971 and committed to promoting the agency, success, and well-being of young people and their families. Y.O.U. operates an Out-of-School Time Program at 9 high-need schools in Evanston and Skokie.
