Here are the top three stories in Mooresville today:

  1. A Mobile Free Pharmacy and Health Fair event will be held in Iredell County on Friday, January 13. The event is a collaboration between NC MedAssist and the Iredell County Health Department and it will be held at the First Baptist Church Mooresville, located at 150 S. Church Street, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. According to the Iredell Free News, “The event is open to any person or family needing over-the-counter medications. Participants must be at least 18 years old to receive medicine. Everyone will receive up to eight over-the-counter medicine items free of charge. No identification is required. Individuals may pre-order medication for pick-up, or work with a trained professional to select from available medications the day of the event. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required.” (Iredell Free News)
  2. According to SpeedwayMedia.com, “Young’s Motorsports and veteran driver Spencer Boyd are set to tackle the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for a fifth season together. The partnership comes with a renewed sense of competition after Boyd suffered a dislocated shoulder in the second race of 2022 that put a damper on the season. “I want last season back,” remarked the 27-year-old Boyd. “We had great chemistry on the 12 team and showed speed early on. To make a long story short, we didn’t end up with the year we wanted and we are set out to put it all in the rear-view mirror with this season.”’ (SpeedwayMedia.com)
  3. Is your student interested in coding? According to a recent Facebook post from the Mooresville Library, “[They should] join other teens interested in coding at our Girls Who Code (GWC) programs! Girls Who Code is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology and computer science, but this program isn’t just for girls! We encourage anyone grades 6-12 who is interested in coding to join us for this program on the second and third Monday of the month at our West Branch! Our first program will be on January 9 at 6 p.m. Registration is required: https://bit.ly/eventsMPL.” (Mooresville Chamber of Commerce via Facebook)

From my notebook:

  • Mooresville Public Library: “Children and their families are invited to come learn about the Northern Lights and create chalk pastel drawings of this amazing phenomenon on January 14 at our Main Library! This program will allow children to discover different mediums and styles of art. (Mooresville Library via Facebook)
  • Town of Mooresville NC: “CPR saves lives. Do you know how to do CPR?” (Town of Mooresville NC via Facebook)
  • Mooresville Public Library: “Baby and Me is a program for children ages six months to eighteen months and their caregivers. This month, this program will be held on January 9, 23, and 30 at 10 a.m. at our Main Library. ” (Mooresville Public Library via Facebook)
