Technology0🇬🇧 United Kingdom: Supporting Programming Planned For Junior Eurovision

With Junior Eurovision being broadcast for the first time on the BBC, the broadcaster has planned related programming prior to the Junior Eurovision final on 11th December 2022; live from Yerevan in Armenia.

The United Kingdom will be represented by 13-year-old Freya Skye with the song “Lose my Head”. She has been hard at work with rehearsals and interviews, as well as getting ready to fly off later this week. Junior Eurovision will be broadcast on CBBC and BBC One at 15:00 (GMT).

On the 9th of December, CBBC has planned two programmes in connection with Junior Eurovision. At 17:00, Blue Peter will be broadcasted with a segment on the upcoming Junior Eurovision with a shoutout to Freya Skye. At 17:30, a programme solely on the UK’s Junior Eurovision participant will be broadcast titled “Junior Eurovision Song Contest: Freya’s Journey”, which will be about Freya’s process and journey to Junior Eurovision: her rehearsals, interviews, excitement and the behind-the-scenes of her performance.

Junior Eurovision 2022

Following Malena’s victory in Paris, the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex in Yerevan will host Junior Eurovision 2022 on December 11. The same venue also hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2011, which was the first Eurovision event in history to be hosted in Armenia. The venue can host between 6,000 and 8,000 people for large concerts. The venue is only the second to have hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest twice, after Minsk Arena in Belarus.

The United Kingdom were one of sixteen countries to take part in the first edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003. Tom Morley’s “My Song for The World” finished in 3rd place in Copenhagen. A year later, Cory Spedding brought home a 2nd place result with “The Best is Yet to Come”. Their last result before they withdrew was 14th place in 2005. In 2022, the country will return to the contest after a 17 year break.
